A Week in Bonaire
To celebrate Grace retiring from Hewlett Packard, we took a quick trip down to Bonaire. We stayed at the Hotel Bogunvillea, a great beach-side place just south of the airport. This is a bit far from the main town, but a nice place. The beach was essentially in the glide path of the arriving airplanes. The hotel dining area was built right into the sea wall for a great ocean view each morning and evening. We had a few places that were walking distance for eating. The Blooz was a good place for a few dinners (chicken, and pizza) and the Dock was a good higher end place for seafood and wine.
Bike the Southern Loop

We biked the southern loop and part of the Lagun Cai loop. Probably about 40 km in total. The wind surfing at Sorobon beach was a great 'vibe'. The east coast was wild and windy, ruff surf blowing ashore. When we crossed the south at Wilemstoren, we were only ~90 Kms from Venezulea. After the lighthouse, the salt lakes presented us with a Flamboyance of Flamingos.
We cycled past the slave huts, from the salt working days of the 1800s. We stopped and watch the kite surfing from the beach and had lunch at the Ocean Beach resort.
Northern Island Tour
Today we booked a tour with adventuresmakers tours and visited the northern half of Bonaire. This region is set aside as a national park. We stopped off at the only beach where green sea turtle lay their eggs. The rescue agency was finding baby turtles in the nest and releasing them to the sea. The cove was a very rough area. We then went to the blowhole and the lighthouse before rounding the north point to a great snorkelling stop. We had a good 'Dutch' lunch on the strand between a salt lake and the ocean, a bit windy. A couple of Flamingos didn't get the memo of residing in the southern shoals, and were hanging out with us up north.
