Central City Opera - The Barber of Serville
Sun 03 August 2025
I saw that Central City opera was putting on Barber of Serville this summer and they still had tickets available. I've never seen the opera live, neither had Grace. In fact, Grace had never seen an opera live. We booked the casino hotel in Central City and planned to see the matinee performance on Sunday.
Central City is 'dead'. Maybe it was the summer season, maybe it was that we planned Sunday/Monday trip instead of the normal weekend. Only a few places in Central City to eat, and not spectacular. We found a taco cart in the casino across the street from our hotel for lunch. Overall, pretty good 'street food' and a decent lunch. The show was good, the opera house and connecting historic bar were fun. Had a couple beers at the only brewpub in town and ended up eating dinner in a 'diner' like place in our hotel. Turned out that this place was the only place in town for breakfast. However, when we came down for breakfast, they informed us the cook hadn't shown up for work yet this morning. Also, the staff that would work the dinning area were late. We went upstairs and played a little video poker for an hour or so and went back down to the diner. The dinning room was still closed, but we could order counter food and got breakfast in take-away containers. If I did this again, would definately prefer Blackhawk or maybe any other city off of I-70 and commute to Central City for the opera.
