Power trail to Loveland was temporarily open for Labor Day weekend
Tue 26 August 2025
The power trail is temporarily open from the Siphon Flyover construction. I think they are taking Labor day week off and perhaps it's because they are in a good place to pause the construction (and let things like the concrete cure).
Anyway, a quick out and back from the house to the south edge of Fort Collins.
Didn't get the phone out fast enough, but flock of wild turkey were blocking the Poudre trail at the beginning. Due to threating rain all week, very light traffic on the trail. Mostly saw biker with trailers (carrying dogs instead of kids), very few joggers, walkers or SUV sized strollers.
Looks like the city is doing a praire dog culling/roundup along the power trail between Trilby and Carpenter. Hundres of wire traps over the praire dog mounds and several vehicles in the middle of the field collecting them up. Was a bit too far to get photo or see if they were live traps or not.
The Siphon Flyover is a 'pedestrian overpass' to connect the Power trail to the Mail Creek trail. The city says SE Fort Collins is 'underserved' in trail support. Apparently, they don't consider any of North Fort Collins in their surverys. I think the primary benefit to the flyover will be a safer way to avoid cycling on Tribly road under the railroad crossing. That section, where apparently just squeezing the shoulder to minimal width and asking bikes to merge directly into the high speed traffic with a sign was consider enough. This underpass has consistently scored in the worst ten bicycle areas of Fort Collins. The Flyover, as a minimal detour, allows cycling that was force to use Trilby for East/West transist to divert a bit North of Trilby, take the flyover and Mail Creek trail to Timberline.
