Gravel Confidence Ride with new bike
Sat 03 May 2025
Grace bought a new gravel bike just before we left for the Egypt trip. Due to cold weather we didn't get a chance to do any break-in rides for the bike until we got back. Saturday was the first real nice day since our return. We decided it would be good to get several miles in on some good gravel for Grace to try out the fit, new riding style (drop handle bars and side gear shifters).
I decided River Bend ponds has some pretty good gravel travels that we could cycle. It seemed a bit better than just riding the Gravel county roads east of I-25 from our house. The trails are probably a bit more like the gravel conditions we'll encounter in our upcoming ride in Western Colorado - Wild Horse.
River bends is a very scenic and quiet. Even for a Saturday, sunny spring day, not too many other users on the trail. Just a few dog walkers, wildlife viewer and a couple of fishermen.
Overall, a fun (if short) ride. Grace had a good time, and it shook out a few loose items in her shifter system, which she can go to ProVelo and get tightened up. I found that my gravel bike has a small problem with the seat attachments, so I get to work on that prior to having a problem on the Wild Horse Gravel ride; so overall a good Saturday.
